SFV-FDC Puts a Light on Things

In a collaborative effort between Mission Valley Bank and the SFV-FDC, a medium sized company in the San Fernando Valley will continue to grow. This effort is evidenced in a $550,000 term loan and a $100,000 line of credit which was approved for Arc Light EFX, Inc., a lighting equipment rental and sales company in Sun Valley, CA.   The firm specializes in lighting sales, rentals and repairs to entertainment venues, particularly the Greek Theater, Hollywood Bowl, and various other concert halls. The company was looking to expand its clientele and as a result, acquired two smaller

companies. Because of those acquisitions their working capital decreased and the bank had difficulty approving the firm’s request for working capital. The bank then approached the SFV-FDC for a credit enhancement.

SFV-FDC reviewed the request, analyzed its strengths and weaknesses and determined that a state guarantee was possible. Although the company had been in business for only three years, the guarantors had over 25 years experience in the industry. Profits apparently had decreased but sales were growing rapidly, and the business assets more than adequately collateralized the loan. The SFV-FDC was able to provide a 60% guarantee and both facilities were funded. The bank was pleased that they were able to service their client and at the same time, we helped another business obtain capital, which would not have been available without our guarantee.

The San Fernando Valley Financial Development Corporation (SFV-FDC) welcomes Ms. Felicia Boone as our new Administrative Assistant. Ms. Boone has successfully completed and graduated from a Computerized Office Program and an Administrative Assistant Program. Prior to joining the SFV-FDC, she worked for 3 years at VEDC (Valley Economic Development Center), under a Business Training Program, and an IDA program. The California Loan Guarantee Program enables a small business to obtain a term loan, line of credit, or letter of credit when it cannot otherwise qualify for a loan. The Office of Small Business administers the program with the primary objective of creating and retaining jobs, as well as providing a service to small businesses.

The program provides a lender with the necessary security, in the form of a guarantee, to approve a loan or line of credit. The guarantees are issued on behalf of the state by any of the non-profit corporations throughout California.  These offices are called Small Business Financial Development Corporations (FDCs).
